Lamba Centauri

Lamba Centauri

Lambda Centuri Nebula

About 6,000 lightyears away in the constellation Centaurus is the emission nebula, Lambda Centauri, also called the Running Chicken Nebula. The site of many newly ignited stars, the gases in this cosmic cloud glow with ionized hydrogen, oxygen, and sulfur. Nearly 100 light years across, one of the features of this nebula are a prominent cluster of Bok globules near its core (the dark spots in the left center), small clouds of gas and dust that are so dense they block the visible light.

Since this object is visible in the southern hemisphere (and I live in the northern hemisphere) I purchased equipment time from observatories in Chile and Australia.

16 total hours exposure of RGB visible light, plus hydrogen, oxygen & sulfur emissions
